What wall is there that has never been breached?
No matter how thick, they’re just paper thin.
You think with your walls you’ll never be reached?
What are you keeping out? Or keeping in?

You put all your healing into that wall.
Each brick represents energy misplaced.
They will crush you when they crumble and fall.
What good are they then? What have they replaced?

Like Jericho, walls succumb to belief.
The walls you build are tools of betrayal.
Loving someone is your only relief.
What are you hiding from? To what avail?

Walls are remnants of cities forgotten,
Of cowards and failures long ago past,
Behind which dying cores have gone rotten.
Why guard your hurt? Do you want it to last?

Impervious.
The defense of age.
Our hearts become small.
We’re loathe to engage.
We put up a wall.

Impervious.
In an armored suit.
Seeking protection.
To be resolute.
Avoid connection.

Impervious.
To one more heartbreak.
We like to think so.
But that’s our mistake.
Our hurt makes us grow.

Impervious.
I have tried to be.
It was just pretense.
For your love found me.
It pierced my defense.

Impervious.
Was never a thing.
I was closed off to
Almost everything—
Everything but you.

Understand I keep my love hidden
Because I need to protect my heart from harm
Once again I lock myself away
This time defenses aren't so easy to disarm
Let me disarm you

In the still of the night
My thoughts drift inwards
I let my guards down
So maybe, just maybe
You catch me after midnight
I'll let you in
Share my deepest self
My fears
The part of me
I often hide with humor
At that point
You become a part of my world
See through my eyes
And get to know me
Just long enough
Until the walls go up again
It's just after midnight

You chipped away at the wall I put up until you made a gaping hole.

Then you left, so I filed it with cement.

I've always kept this parachute.
This protective layer surrounding me.
Catching me as I fall, and keeping me safe from harm.

But now there's you-
Every minute we spend together pokes a hole in my parachute.
Each hole representing such a happy memory.
A poke for every laugh
For every soft word whispered
For every time I watched your eyes crinkle with that cute smile of yours.

So many holes- my parachute is starting to fail me.
I'm going defenseless.
You're destroying that protective layer.
I'm going into a free fall-

It's the most thrilling ride of all
And I could not be happier.
I've never fallen for someone so quickly, or so hard.

I hurt a man
Out of insensitivity
I hurt a man
Through thoughtless pride
I hurt a man
With my inner truths
I hurt a man
With insecurities
I hurt a man
Thinking he didn't care
I hurt a man
Who is my friend
I hurt a man
Who thought he loved me
I hurt a man
