I have cried over many muted memories;
agonized over my failings,
watching time pass through a foggy lens.

I thought the wisdom was worth the wait,
the view must be most beautiful at the end.

But when I look at your face,
filled with bright laughter,
your eyes speckled with joy,
I think, Why not laugh this time?
Just once more?

I'll let myself laugh,
carefully at first,
then to you, my voice lets go.

This must be what I was waiting for;
your face filling with a smile,
this ease, this noise.

A plant outstretches its frame,
in steady growth and tenor;
A new leaf still wrapped unto itself,
must unfold to meet the world.

A universe appears,
and another dissipates;
Yet a leaf is born,
between the stars and dirt -
from the dust and decay.

A sapling reaches for sun and rain,
as I search for pen and paper.
After all,
We all do what we can.

Disturbing and relieving as a nightmare,
Comforting and lonely as a daydream,
The quiet of waking.

I am unravelling.
Fragments thin as hair pull away,
Ribboning to a dance of dust.
Of stars,
Or of dirt -
I am unsure,
But there is no weight for breeze or sun,
and yet they hold me gently within their calm.

A soft, familiar friend
Again, met as strangers
She wears a different face, but you remember her.

The recognition of her hand on your chest
The weight of it as heavy as a burden

She whispers to you sweetly
Her voice is a lullaby to your exhausted soul
You are tempted to dance with her

A slow, tedious waltz in disproportionate time
You forget what you need to remember,
That there are things outside her grasp
You could dance forever

But eventually
The music begins to fade
She becomes a vague memory once again
You forget as much of her as you can

And the sadness goes away

But sometimes,
You hear her lulling voice,
You feel the impression of her hand,
You dance with the thoughts that call her,
And you meet again.
