Perhaps one day we can settle down, not today
(and not the next)
And maybe not even a year from now but I hope
One day that   that ‘patch of trimmed grass’
                                                       (by the towering Oak tree.)
      Will be ours.

We were all born in the hood,
Marching down to eternal doom,
Slaves to ancestral covenants,
Hanging chains of curses about our necks.
Dragged like sheep to the abatoire,
surely we were descendants of death.

and we
won't just
  survive
    but we'll
      thrive till
        we're five
           and make
              peace with
                 our hearts
                     till we're
                         feeling
                              alive
                                   and my
                                        puppy-
                                               eyed
                                                     lover
                                                            will talk
                                                                   to the
                                                                          sky and
                                                                               we'll drift
                                                                                      through the
                                                                                              night till
                                                                                                      we're free

You catch life
one tear at a time
to one day
fill an ocean.
I heard you liked short poems, so here's one for you.

If roses are red and violets are blue
The colour of my heart is darker than soothe

If roses are red and bullets are lead
Loving me is a dead end

If roses are red and loving is shared
Don't expect mine, for its all in shreds
She can walk
          between
             night and day
               never letting either
                  get in her way.
She learned this trick
                     many moons ago
                                by
                     going deep within
           and never letting it show.
Her soul is innocent
her heart is pure
she’s gone through more
than most could endure.
            She’s an angel of light
                 an angel of dark
                 you never know
              what you will spark.
                      You want to hurt her?
                         Please, go ahead and try
she’ll be the one to show you
                                  just how well she can
                                                              f
                                                                l
                                                                  y.
                                  Her soul innocent
                    her heart pure
but never think for one minute
that she’s not secure.
                                Say what you will
                          please, do what you must
                       but your jealousy and hatred
                             won’t waver her trust!
