I miss you
RH 78 Nov 2019
Left kidney aches and a hum resonates in the cranium.
The boiler kicks in with its usual click, click, buzz.
Silence is broken by a whoosh overhead plane breaking clouds above.
All is quiet.
All is tranquil.

If I could just see you again.
Thinking of those I've loved and lost.
I miss them more when all seems normal.... Nothing will ever be the same again.

When you left
I felt low
I felt hurt
I felt crushed
I felt upset

After you left
I felt stronger
I felt alive
I felt independent
I felt awake

Now you have left
I feel stronger
I feel wiser
I feel happier
Not every ending should be sad. In time YOU will feel better. In time YOU will feel STRONGER. Some things are not meant to last but provide you with experience and knowledge to have a better life.

Comatosed body rigid from a fix.

Patchwork multicoloured polyester tents adorn a high end shop.
The homeless issue continues to worsen in London. I can’t remember seeing it so bad.

Green strips upon copper coloured chimneys.

Slushy puddles refill as the single line traffic churns up choke inducing fumes.

Frilly octagon honey comb with their black on polka dot polyester.

Grey meets black amongst hustle and bustle broken by car toot and shoe shuffle.

Pavement lights shape shift as rumble follows rumble.

Green strips upon copper coloured chimneys.
Head down to central London.... evoke the spirits of the past.. urban life carries on no matter what the weather... we get our fair share of wet in these parts!

Is this really human progress? Are we a truly happy society when we’re constantly burdened with the pressure to build grow and develop our world in this manner.? I fear for those who cannot keep up. Third world countries left behind whilst global super powers monopolise this planet. What’s next for us all?. No mans land
RH 78 Feb 2018
I still ache, bullets fly.
Whizzing by.... that was close!
Face down buried in mud crippled with fear.
Mustn't cry there's still blood in my eye
Think of tea.. a nice cuppa... will god save me?
From no mans land back to the trench I slither back down to safety.
Rotten flesh... oh the stench!
Fight for country, peace and crown they said.
The smell of death fills the air.
I take a breath, look up and pray there is a god.
A noise.. I Look around... no one there.?
I drift off dreaming of home a beautiful barley field on a summers day my sweetheart running towards me.
I wake up to moans, mud, guts, blood and a grey skies again. Will I see my sweetheart again.?
Is this hell on earth?
A nightmare now reality?.
Must be. Forced to serve crown and country! This was not meant to be.
Open gritty eyes. Heavy shoulders.
Up and over again let's give them Germans a surprise.!!
Muddy heavy boots fight a terrain of wire, body parts, bones, wood, wire, the drip drip drip slip against blood sweat and tears.
Rat-a-tat-tat. Boom.!
No ammo left.!
While soldiers face a famine the rats feast on a dead soldiers face.
Getting fatter and fatter becoming the only winners in this god forsaken place.
I hear a moan in the land of no man.
I hear breath, see life, slippery and heavy, i pull and drag, falling, stumbling, mumbling my soul is crumbling.
Everything is a fight for survival.
Heaven a step closer for one of us.
I look across.
I hold my cross.
Exhausted.
No time to cry.
Boom.!

Bye.

Another fallen soldier including me.

RIP

Another fallen soldier.

Brexit
RH 78 Jun 2016
Some voted for freedom from that rusty  EU shackle.
Discussed immigration issues they were unable to tackle.
An establishmentarian North, South divide. When poverty strikes there's nowhere to hide.
Deep trenched anger rising from the disenfranchised vote. The pound devalued as the right wing gloat.
Uncertain times causes a global ripple. Bank of England acts to avoid economic *******.
But what of our neighbours? Our brothers in arms? Democratic victors, do they know who this harms?
Young against old, divisions laid bare. Political wrangling, do they really care?
The Prime Minister resigns and a new chapter to be written.
Democracy wins in a diverse, Great Britain.
Felt obliged to pen some words subsequent to the Brexit vote. Britain voted and in the coming years is set to leave the EU. Uncertainty has manifested itself in many ways since but the debate roars on. The political establishment are in turmoil. Resignations are a daily occurrence as the bloodbath spills into the media.,! Our ears are glued to the news to establish what happens next and there is an underlying sense of excitement from the leave voters that our Country can spread its wings on the global stage again and renegotiate our position in the single market (EU) as well as strengthen old relationships worldwide. Whatever happens, the majority of our people are extremely hard working. Our adopted europen citizens have unequivocally assisted our country to thrive. Long may this continue.!

Each crease telling a true tale of smiles and cries.

Hath links to freedom in an Arabic Kingdom.
The Arab Kingdom of Syria was the first modern Arab state to come into existence but only lasted a little over four months (8 March–24 July 1920). During its brief existence, the kingdom was led by Sharif Hussein bin Ali's son Faisal bin Hussein. Despite its claims to territory of a Greater Syria, Faisal's government controlled a limited area and was dependent on Britain which, along with France, generally opposed the idea of a Greater Syria and refused to recognize Faisal as its king.[1] The kingdom surrendered to French forces on 24 July 1920.

Mere mortal
RH 78 Nov 2015
From flat number 40 on the morning of January 6th 2004 I removed myself from the situation.

I felt free that day taking photo after photo looking at the world with new vigour hoping to remind myself one day in the future that the sun peeping through leafless trees on a sunny winters morning brought more joy into my life than anything else at that time.

Out of the blue two weeks later I received a phonecall from you telling me you were moving out.

A week after you moved out you told me you were going to San Francisco for a holiday.

A day after coming back from San Fransisco you told me you went there with another man.

A week after that you told me it was your boss.

A month before you moved out you told me your boss earnt good money and that we never did anything together anymore.

On the night of January 5th 2004 I read a text on your phone from an anonymous ID which said "you consume me. I can't wait to kiss you again"

The last time I saw you I told you I loved you despite the fact I knew you'd left me for your boss. In fact, I knew you'd let him take you away to San Fransisco and he had moved into your new flat. That was the day I realised you'd fallen from grace and I'd put you on an invisible pedestal for the last 8 years. We both needed to move on.

I smile on a sunny winters day when the sun peeps through leafless trees knowing I never wasted my love on you. You were a mere mortal looking for a way out.

Sins of powers
RH 78 Oct 2015
A summer of discontent
Uprooted families swap a bombed house for tent.

A summer of disbelief.
Acts of terror but where is the relief?

A summer of turmoil.
Mass migration not safe on home soil.

A summer of confusion.
Gangs, traffickers, corruption collusion.

A summer of down trodden flowers.
The tears we shed from the sins of powers.
I felt the need to pen this subsequent to daily reports of the terrible migrant atrocities which continue to happen as a result of the unsettled nations in North Afria. European nations have no cohesive solution to deal correctly with the influx of people. Their plight ignored daily. Countries such as Greece & Turkey are experiencing first hand the social impact as they struggle to cope. The powers seem at odds to deal with it all. Where is the humanitarian effort to correct the sins created by the powers that be?

It is believed the man was an innocent victim of the attack on Bank Holiday Monday night, May 26 2014.

I learnt the harshest lesson in love..... Never take it for granted! This is a summary of my first true love which I thought would last forever. How wrong could I be!! She ran off with her boss from work!!!

My perception of love has changed over the years and believe it to be a transitional journey which is fluid. It's healthy to reflect on past experiences. We're only human after all and all make mistakes.

Why is there a little boy lying on the beach?
A son.
No future.
We hang our heads and weep!
Broken hearted and deeply affected by pictures I saw in the news depicting the lifeless body of a little boy no older than three who was photographed washed up on the shore line of Turkey. The result of further illegal human smuggling, people trafficking promising to get families to Europe on a false promise. All too often, people are put into small boats unable to sustain the weight of all the people put upon it and not fit for purpose. This is yet another shocking event in the wake of atrocities taking place in North Africa where the displacement of millions of innocent people continues. Governments are too busy counting the pennies and quarrelling amongst themselves in addition to wasting precious time as gangs and smugglers take advantage of the situation by sending people to their death profiting from the desperation of families searching for a place to call home. When will this end? RIP to the little boy, his brother and mother who all perished.

The moon
RH 78 Aug 2015
I was watching the moon on a midsummer night. It turned fire red and It gave me a fright.

I was listening to a river in the middle of the winter. It washed up a stump which gave me a splinter.

I could feel the sun on a spring afternoon. I took a deep breath and thought about the moon.

The moon was scary and the moon made me shiver but it didn't inflict pain like the splinter from the river.

I was watching the moon on a midwinter night. A shadow cast across it and disappeared from my sight.

Dark tunnel of migration
RH 78 Aug 2015
Waiting in the winds.
Squinting in the sunlit hills a group of people wait for darkness to fall.
Against all the odds they have travelled land and sea to make it this far but not far enough for THAT better life.
What do they seek on the other side of that dark tunnel?
Health wealth happiness.
Could it be a dream too far?
Even the fittest fail to survive as night after night death grips the bravest to jump onto a moving train destined for Grand Bretagne.
Migrants take life into their own hands as they seek a better life by jumping onto moving trains travelling from The port of Calais in France via the Euro tunnel to Great Britain. There seems to be no end but for added security around the Euro tunnel terminal fences. A month ago 2000 migrants forced their way into the French terminal causing major disruption to train services as the people tried to force their way onto trains. There is no alternative and no way back for these people who will stop at nothing to reach their chosen destination.

Altogether on the boat.
The waves stood tall.
Not enough space on the boat to hold them all.

25 migrants promised new lives.
They left behind their children.
They left behind their wives.

The dream of prosperity.
The men set sail.
Turned into a nightmare did this sad and sorry tale.

5 died of hunger, 6 of dehydration.
A woeful situation.
No plan B or mitigation.

The men laid to rest at the bottom of the sea.
These were normal people like you and like me.

Looking for a better life.
It's all so terribly sad.
A wife missing her husband.
A child missing his dad.

The only ones to gain are the ones who sold the dream.
The ones who take blood money are never what they seem.

They take the hard earned cash from men who Want a better way of life. They care little for their children and care nothing for their wives.
RIP to all those brave African migrants who tried in vain to look for a better life and desperately tried to get to that place where an opportunity equals a lifeline for their family.

Our borders are shrinking. What does it take for a man to leave his family in search of a better life? I cannot imagine! The statistics are staggering and many lost lives go unreported.

Poignant given the terrible and shocking pictures shown worldwide of a little boy who had drowned and washed up on a Turkish beach. So so sad.

Covent Garden by night.
RH 78 Jul 2015
Covent Garden.
Midnight.
Revellers and tourists combined.
The market is heaving.
Last trains are leaving.
An eclectic mix to broaden the mind.

Covent Garden.
2am.
The place is pretty quiet.
Pubs have closed.
Clubs.... God knows.
The tourists have frozen their riot.

Covent Garden.
4am.
A drunkard stumbles by.
Flood lit shops.
A rickshaw stops.
The backdrop against a reddish
sky.

Covent Garden.
6am.
Blokes lurk down Langley street.
The glint of a blade.
A blur in the shade.
Lava tip of cigarette falls to a strangers feet.

Covent Garden.
8am.
Commuters emerge from underground stations.
Workers prepare.
Visitors beware.
Pick pockets attracted like gravitation.
Spent a night shift at Covent Garden in London people watching.

Following me?
RH 78 Jul 2015
Ever since you started following me I realised you are a husk of a soul.

Your mere presence is irritating.

The fact that you're being an irritation bolsters my assessment that you are actually an irritating being.

What's it like to be an irritant?

Not sure.

I know you're being a stimulant.

The heart of London
RH 78 Jun 2015
Shop fronts, curbs and pavements.
Bin men wear hearts on their sleeve.
Coffee shops, bakers and jewellers.
A homeless man searching reprieve.

Adverts and billboards shine bright.
The cleaners have swept the streets bare.
Commuters and tourists combined.
This city called London we share.

Marching to a steady beat
Marching to a steady beat

The pavement are veins
People the blood
The city the heart

Pumping the beat

Your words.
RH 78 Jun 2015
Your words took my breath away!

A child being born.
A first kiss.
I will never forget.

Each word enveloping me.
Gripping my attention.
Consuming the fibres of my being.

Each word striking a chord in my heart to make the blood fizz.

My body became a slave to its rhythm. I became a mere husk in awe of beauty.

As a a heavy tear fell I realised it was a poem from you to me. X

What's in a name?
RH 78 Jun 2015
"What's your name?"
"John"
"John who?"
"John Stevens"
"Who is, John Stevens?"
"Me"
"Hello Me!"
A play on words... I do this with my kids and it's amazing how this play on words challenges then to explore other ways of explaining who they are. Kids can never explain who "me" is.

The dragons tear drop
RH 78 Jun 2015
With a wink it fell.
Slipping, sliding down her cheek.
Oh.... if only I could bottle that stuff.
On eBay it would sell.
