let somebody's heart get broken but please not mine

there is something to be said about
seeing light cast from another room
when yours is dark and cold

the warm orange glow of someone else's lights
can ignite a spark of sudden sadness
and set fire to the ache of missing in your heart

reaching over the bed next to you and finding
no one

every moment of loneliness turns to emptiness
and longing for the difference in time days
in time in hours in minutes in seconds

there's nothing like having a piece of yourself
stretched across the world from you

each day and each night is filled with hollow words
while you grip your chest
pull your arms tight around yourself

because if you don't you may fall apart
scattered bones and body parts spread across your bedroom floor

only when the heartache became too much

someone's heart is broken and I think this time it's mine
