I guess it happened because you were my sun
and I spent so much time around you that,
when the nighttime fell and I retired to my bed,
I was burned and more than a little sore.

And I guess it happened because he was the temporary relief
I needed from the pain that blistered my skin
and he held my attention long enough to ease the stinging,
even if only for a few hours.

And I guess it happened because the sun sets and
even though it comes back around eventually,
it takes time and your skin will still feel burnt even in the dark,
causing you to rely on the short-lived bliss of convenience.
what i really wanted to say at 6:16 pm this evening
