A Wish Unfulfilled

I'm too old now

And much too cold.

I wish I could have had a son

And given wisdom's gold:

"I know what's in your future son,

And though it may be bold,

Your effort has a meaning son."

And from my tongue it rolled:

"I know it will be dark,

So dark and dank you'll mold.

Living in this day and age,

You'll wish your bell had tolled.

But let that woman see your smile,

And hear her be extolled."

I wish my dad had said the same.

Until my mind would hold.
