something close to nothing

the pause after an exhale

before the next breath

begins

dust motes

floating

in a shaft of weak afternoon sun

a single gray hair

resting on the collar of a black coat

static lingering on a television screen

turned off

hours ago

the taste of water

faint vibration

in the floorboards

residue of a dream

fading upon waking

a ghost of a feeling

barely heavy enough to be held
