Dream If You Must (still you must awaken)

Dream If You Must (still you must awaken)

A lifetime of advice to give that you’ve accumulated

It’s yours now to pass on to someone else

There is no genius in a simple story of truth

That is reserved for what their heart takes for itself

I say, you say, and we hear what life is about

What we record in our minds must be played back

We tell our friend what happened and how it felt

What felt lonely now feels together, there’s nothing we lack

Your depth is deeper than you know

Don’t follow where a mistake will go

The harder your life, the more you lived

No silver spoon to weaken your soul

Only the hands that dig what they did grow

We do not have to imagine things we cannot understand

There is no need for a dream to weave itself into a portrait

For as we cannot live inside a poem so too we must be honest

The life we live is what we make of it, not a dream to interpret

But to those who dream, and I am one

We reach ahead of ourselves to be pulled along

What is still out there that we can imagine?

Love and peace, and yet, I must start my own engine

Your depth is deeper than you know

Don’t follow where a mistake will go

The harder your life, the more you lived

No silver spoon to weaken your soul

Only the hands that dug what they did grow
