Johnny
shuddered through
the rubble of hell itself.
Clinging to his bright star,
he never lost his heart’s desire.
The ravages of battle,
mortar rounds
nor liberated skeletons
could keep him
from his fate,
his sacred-date
with his one true love
Mary.
