i curled up in my mother’s bed
because i knew what i’d do if i didn’t.
she didn’t ask why.
she just let me stay.
she knew why,
and i think it hurt her to know.
but not as much
as it would’ve hurt
if i hadn’t stayed.
mothers know things.
like how silence can bleed.
and how company
can be a tourniquet.
