& the wind has them fallen to the ground,
the sky has turned a shade of gray
& the air bites gently at fingertips,
pumpkins & pies take over dinner plates

& soft brown wind-blown hair,
that same wide smile
& a smooth warm voice,
with summer-crazed eyes
& a daisy in his hair . . .
