When I was only three
We lived next to a house that burned down
The flames took two lives
Mother and son
Father unknown
I wondered
Did the father make it out alive
If he did, what became of him
I was too young to remember the flames
You see, it happened before my birth
But I saw the flames and the family
Mother and son stood before me
I thought the little boy was real
I wanted him to stay
We’d play tag
Hide and seek
The closest friends could ever be
Until I made my first real friend
I don’t know if he ever forgave me
I forgot to include you
I still think about you and your family
Now beyond living in harmony
The fire was put out long ago
But the images
They still burn inside me
