They had taken the bait
and now they waited.
The jury was out on lunch
and she chewed her fingernails
to pass time.
He shifted,
loosened his tie and tried
not to look her in the eye.
One ravenous moment
had devoured a life of maybe's
forced to face some mirror
stand trial, be made to wither
Oh! to have known sweet desire
is to have overthrown
any verdict of denial.
