The women wept
As darkness swept
From mountain to
Mountain, over
The small village
As children screamed.
For what they felt
Came shortly after,
To those older,
A chilling song
That caused eyes
To clench shut,
And dreams
To crawl backward
Into the cave
Of mind.
Causing Men
To sit in the sand
And wonder
Why
They had already
Given up
