We started out with pastel
Soft colors at their best
Over time we drew the lines
Then filled in all the rest

The further in that we went
Brighter were the shades
Water coloring away the nights
While waking to acrylic days

Much too soon we drew the blues
When envying the greens
Angered at the reds we'd choose
Brushed with jealousy

Till the colors that we saved
Over time did fade
Helping tell what we knew full well
We should have layered more the paint

Pulling out the markers that
We had yet to mark us with
And colored on each other gone
With the little we had left
