Years ago
I fell into this hole
Face down in a puddle of poetry

Splashed around like a kid
Till I learned how to swim
Footloose and fancy-free

Where every now and then
I would swim the deep end
Holding my breath as I go

Following along with the current
Knowing full well that it's worth it
When caught up in a rhyming flow

Yet there are those days
When all I do is wade
Only as far as up to my knees

Not wanting to get
My mind overly wet
In this puddle of poetry

Who would have guessed
Or have known this no less
Years ago when I fell in this hole

That this poetry puddle I'm in
Would teach me how to swim
Beyond anything I've ever known
