When we were seventeen
Filled to the brim with hopes and dreams
The world was our oyster that we knew held a pearl

We had ahold of so much hope
By the long end of the fraying rope
Every day a crazy ride on the tilt-a-whirl

With no way to stop this moving train
Chugging on these rails of fame
Sure that we would all meet at that station

But some trains fly by too fast
And the train we planned most of us missed
On different rails of time, we were taken

Time to me felt more free
When we were seventeen
The innocence of it all well worth saving

But life soon enough lets you know
Who really is in control
And the uphill climb your train is facing

You can hold tight to the hand of fate
But it'll still give your past away
Leaving your memories short and lean

Thinking back now to the day
And the frame of mind that gave it all away
When we were seventeen filled with hopes and dreams
