I'm on the threshold of heaven
That elusive place where all is said and done
I'm one cut away from perfection
Oh, but it all falls apart.

I can make the forest sigh a sigh of relief
I can make the blades of grass mean pages of poetry
I can reach escape velocity,
Watch me.

I am on the threshold that means so much to me.
I am a well-nurtured scientist
One day I'll cease to be
I am a bead on the string of eternity
In the color scheme of entropy
Death will take the purpose from me
Life will give me things
