The birdcage is empty
It appears the bird has flown
Whoever would have thought it
Whoever could have known

Did we not clip its wings
When we brought it home
Right before we placed it in its cage
Could its wings have grown

Our bird it would sing for us
Such a lovely song
One we thought we'd hear forever
Never to be gone

Now we look into the sky
And listen with our ears
Just to catch a glimpse or song
But our bird's been gone for years
