Jun 2018
I drink the juices of the forbidden fruits
Just to get the high
It sends me to the stratosphere
And through the other side
I see visions of a cotton field
It’s essence soft and white
The skies, a reverent blue
Where dreams have taken flight
Far away, I hear a sound
A melancholy tone
I listen for the drummers beat
Unabashed or known
The outliers, the simpletons, the women filled with moans
The relatives’ adoring eyes
“My, look how much you’ve grown”
But it never ever ends well
A token for your tears
No, it never ever ends well
In time we’ll disappear
All that we have built
Discoveries we’ve found
There’s no more evolution
Over leaps and bounds
So, I’d ask you for your patience
Before you try and pounce
It’s softer where we’re headed
Yet it’s often mispronounced
Open up your vocal chords
Let loose of all that you hold dear
Secrets you’ve never spoken of
For years, and years, and years
Let’s dance in the streets of fire
Let’s go make a scene
Ask me what’s my one desire
After all, it’s just a dream
