You want the thought to go away
The little angel in your mind
You know you could have held her
Could have sung her lullabies

You could have cradled her to sleep
So tiny in your arms
So beautiful; extravagant
You would have kept her safe from harm

You could have kissed her little cheeks
Even rocked her when she cried
But now it's just a "could have"
And it keeps you up at night

But please don't blame yourself
You did what you had to do
The wound is new, but I promise in time
You will have forgiven you
