I remember a time when the sun would shine so bright you couldn’t look at it with your eyes and even sunglasses wouldn’t even help.

I remember a time when life was easy and carefree

I remember a time when all I had to do was wake up and smile

I remember a time when I enjoyed going to school

I remember a time when schools were safe

I remember a time when I didn’t have to worry about the worlds issues or what was going on on the news

I remember a time when I would wake up not having to worry about if I was gonna make it back home safe at the end of the day

I remember a time when I wasn’t scared of the men in blue who’s jobs it was to keep us safe

I remember a time when war was only an issue on the tv and not when I walked out of my front door

chuckle

But sadly all of those are only memories
Ideas and concept of a young and niece child who wanted to be an astronaut bc it started with the letter A like her name

But now the sun doesn’t shine as bright

But now life isn’t so life easy and carefree

Now schools aren’t safe they are turning into jails with metal detectors and one too many people with guns on their hip

Now the world issues are my issues bc todays leaders don’t want to speak up so I have too

Now I fear the idea that I wont make it back home to my parents and it will be the men in blue who will be to stop me

I fear I will be just another T-shirt or poster that you’ll parade around for a few months then toss away in your garages your trailers and dumpsters.

I’m afraid my phone will be mistaken for a gun and I’ll be shot at

I’m afraid that one day I’ll be denied because of my honey brown skin

You see i remember a time when life was easy and care free and all I had to do was wake up and smile

You see I remember a time...
