I was there
when my mother had to leave,
when my dad hid an affair,
when my friend wanted to cut,
when I heard my sister crying herself to sleep.

I was gone
when I lost the appetite to eat,
when I thought it was all unfair,
when I kept everything shut,
when I had no sanity to keep

And now I'm here.
At the edge of the roof,
standing,
breathing,

looking down,
contemplating,
second-guessing

taking a step further,
letting go,
being free

*oh dear, I'm flying
sanctuary
