I Knew You
And so it is, just as I knew it would be,
Knowing our paths had never crossed.
Yet in one solitary glance I recognised you,
And the world collided and the stars aligned.
For in my world before you existed,
The wind had spoken your name,
And I recognised the sound once heard.
Flowers emanated your scent,
Until my head was dizzy with your fragrance.
Mother of pearl shone like your skin.
Smooth, shining, lustrous to touch.
Quartz crystal had shown me your eyes,
With all their facets of light, glinting.
And I had traced your freckles within the stars,
And seen a thousand candles light up a room
Just the way you do when you enter.
And my soul recognised you and all that you are.
And so I knew it was you.
