Sometimes thoughts in my brain
Are like burning buildings
I can feel their heat
From so far away;
Ever-present
I open the door
Hoping to make everything better
The backdraft engulfs me;
Consuming
Then I am nothing
But singed and disfigured;
A monstrosity
Nerves sizzling;
Nerves singing
It's like swallowing fire
What I need to understand
That sometimes I must
Leave things to burn
Until they are no more
Than ashes on the floor;
The best place to grow again
