*In the city of lights, our love grew As the trees prospered in springtime And the breeze caressed the crowded streets You asked me to come back You said ‘we’ll be together at last’ In the city of lights, our love died As the trees perished in winter time And the grey sky over shadowed the lonely streets You asked me to go clear my mind You said ‘We’ll see what happens when you come back ‘ Our love is holding on to a dying flame Restlessly igniting itself Quenching in our separateness A self-sabotaged togetherness In the city of lights, love kindles in flesh And in poetry, it dies To you.
