a child's night fever

Here they come again

on that not-so-merry-go-round of fear;

distant drunken voices

far side of the carousel.

Bed-side of their nightmarish game

they grasp at painted heads of horses,

leaning invisibly

to direct their boom of terror

over my trembling frame.
