Hundreds of miles away My mother is in agony Her mother crossing a "final threshold" into Stillness and Peace My mind is drowning A dull deafening hum That shuts out the world Boxes me in I keep thinking "Why isn't this affecting me more?" Just a blank stare and a refusal To feel, a voice inside says "Don't say Anything" Right here, right now I am melancholy Waiting for the call, to bring me home To watch her get tucked in to the last bed she'll need With her name and a nice message on the headboard Knowing that a part of her will always be Riding passenger in the cab of my car The car she loved so much Because it drives like freedom Mile after Mile Hundreds of Miles "Don't say Anything" Stillness and Peace
