A final cry resounds from Calvary’s hill, “It is complete,” the dying Messiah proclaims; The noon sun faints, the blackened heavens chill, As cosmic sorrow breaks all earthly chains. That very hour, the temple’s massive wall Shakes to its base beneath a thunderous blow; The heavy shroud is commanded to fall, Ripped top to bottom by an unseen glow. Twisted threads of scarlet, gold, and blue Snap hard like cables under sudden strain; The sacred tapestry is hacked in two, Weeping its fringes in a golden rain. The planet reels, the cracked foundations groan, The bursting earth yields to a sudden dread; The splitting tombs and shattered vaults of stone Surrender up the long-forgotten dead. Then falls a sudden hush, a breathless peace, As nature holds its tongue and terrors cease. The veil is torn, the sovereign path is clear The dawn of grace has conquered every fear.
