You could have left, You had every right to go, You could have closed the door on me And left me alone with what I know. But you stayed. You stayed when it was hard, You stayed when you were hurt, You stayed when your heart was heavy And everything felt worse. So thank you isn’t enough For what you chose to do, Because forgiving someone who hurt you Is the hardest thing to do. You didn’t just forgive me, You gave us another start, And I will spend my time Being gentle with your heart.
