Last night I pretended that you didn't exist And, sadly, the world went unchanged But for one single second of one single hour In this closed little world, I felt no pain Last night I pretended that you didn't exist For at the time I wished it were true I imagined that you hadn't come into my life That I hadn't both loved and lost you Last night I pretended that you didn't exist And for a while I almost believed it I never heard your voice and I never kissed you So grand a scheme, I'm surprised I conceived it Last night I pretended that you didn't exist But in a moment that dream was shattered You called me up in the middle of the night And my safe pretend world was scattered
