a voice rising in the air like sunlight glinting off the waves breaking our silence. embraced by yawning blue, held fast; held tight pulled deeper with every note. battered by merciless tides rolled smooth by sun-bleached sand rib shards shimmer like glass. vision clouded by saltwater, there's no up or down, only blue. safer in the cold and dark, because there's always that _maybe_ of something at the bottom. why gaze down? why tread water? why not break the surface                               and _breathe_?
