Contrary to popular opinion, it can be reasonably argued that the Haiku can no more be properly written in English than Elizabethan Poetry can be written in Japanese. Equally true, the Haiku is open to highly subjective translation. Hence, it is best for the author, if at at all possible, to do the translation in order to express the intended meaning.
