Hot and muggy the world seems to be
I stepped out a moment to smoke
Yet, gone is the air that keeps me cool
Gone is the world that I knew
I could've stayed in the world I once knew
There are whirring and purring things that take
away my smoke from my smoke
But I could not stand that whirring and that purring
Not one second more could I stand them
So I stepped out and away into this surprising new world
It was loud out here as well as inside
But this was not the whirring and the purring
It was a magical little symphony of small living things
The heat makes me sweat and makes me sticky
In the light of my smoke I see moving shadows smaller than a thimble
The air has a taste quite unlike the one I know
Yet, somehow, I feel like I belong in this strange world
