A woman walked past and told me that everything was okay - it was all a movie set At that same spot Through a haze of chemical fog My father missed his mark, stepping off the curb And into the street Stage lights in the distance Breaking into headlights And the sound of an engine He fell backward - a car slamming through the air he'd just occupied My body moved before my brain Toward the skidding tires When I reached the window The woman inside stared straight ahead And said her daughter had died this way
