Unfortunately, trauma can be hereditary.  The woman may have been raised also by people she deemed broken, or maybe she was hurt by someone else. None of us are truly broken, we all just want to be seen and to be loved. When we focus on ourselves and our own healing, it is not selfish, it is on of the most selfless acts we can do to stop hurting those around us. You are not broken, you are just hurt. Your wounds will heal, they just need to be treated.
