The hand you’ve held now holds scars, The heart that loved you can’t contain it any longer, The head you’ve kissed is filled with memories of you, And the lips you once wanted now dream of that same fate. The body you once held now wanders on its own, The girl you hugged still wants you again. The eyes you looked into now search for revival, And the distance you created stands like a block between us. The space you opened now feels exposed and loud, And it still carries my name when it’s quiet. What you once saw as love is still willing to open again, to care again, to hug again, to love again. Please hold what was ours, I’ll hold mine, And maybe we’ll learn to hold it all differently next time.

The Things You've Held
