A lifetime ago I didn’t have the guts to speak plain. I stole Neruda’s voice to say what I wanted, thought if I said her name right it might stick like a dent in cheap metal. I said forever because people say stupid things when they’re scared of being alone. She picked my friend. That’s it. No lesson. No echo. Just the period doing its job.
