Relieving Shadows (Day 9)

We’ve grown and changed

and there are only shadows

of what once was.

When life gets too heavy I return

to those familiar shadows.

Not fitting perfectly, but

comfortable enough;

reminded of the good.

If I stay too long

the seasons change

and the once relaxing shade

turns to biting cold.

Embittering me

with each icy memory. It is then

I know my time is up,

I must return to the present,

until the next too heavy day.
