Aemulus

She woke to sunlight streaming through the curtains of her room,

Another day beginning- far from all the doom and gloom,

A different world surrounding her from what she once called home,

More grateful now than ever that her dad forced her to roam.

She'd never had an easy life- not one you'd call care free,

Each day a mix of fear and pain that no one else would see,

Too weird to be the golden child- too strong to be ignored,

Forever in the middle of the anger he had stored.

She buried all her feelings and she scarcely shed a tear,

But still she smiled for all to see regardless of her fear,

No one to share her secrets from the few that she called friend,

Although they told her fervently they'd love her till the end.

She never had a misspent youth and seldom broke a rule,

But rumours were spread far and wide at home, in town, and school,

She couldn't be a rebel, she scarcely had the chance,

Just longing for an outlet so her broken soul could dance.

She found a little heaven- a moment of release,

An escape from her hellish life she wished could never cease,

Each time the cold blade softly touched her warm but worthless skin,

She felt alive and safe at last with her immortal kin.

She knew this peace could never last as each new scar was made,

Another vein to open long before each cut could fade,

To meet her fabled maker would be no escape at all,

So courting all her demons she refused to hear their call.

She battled on until she couldn't face another day,

Her hand was forced and so she chose at last to run away,

The time had come to make her mark and leave this hell behind,

To walk that road to somewhere that she knew they'd never find.

She looked out at this new day as she laid the past to rest,

Despite the fears her broken heart replayed within her chest,

A second chance before her far away from all the pain,

Though in her heart she hoped one day to find home once again.
