Weird, Whimsy.
One means odd, strange, bizarre.
Like leaving tiny notes for strangers in library books.
The other means quirky, fun, offbeat,
Like wishing they had a good day through those books.
Weird is dancing while waiting for the microwave,
Whimsy because time exists only to be filled with joy.
Weird is waving at cats like they're dignitaries,
Whimsy because the feline overlords deserve our respect.
Weird is doing dramatic bows after mundane tasks,
Whimsy because you imagine audience applaud after loading the dishwasher.
Weird is noticing something is off.
Whimsy is deciding that "off" is interesting, not wrong.
Weird is seeing faces in everyday objects,
Whimsy is greeting them anyway.
Weird is refusing to be efficient,
Whimsy is choosing delight over optimization.
Weird is standing slightly outside the frame,
Whimsy is decorating the edge.
Weird can feel lonely when it's unshared,
Whimsy reaches out a hand and invites someone in.
Weird says the word is stranger than we pretend,
Whimsy says the strangeness can be gentle.
