On ever-changing tides
they floated for nigh a lifetime
growing worn
tattered
and frayed around the edges
They were tangible once
and precious
even solemn
But
somewhere along the way
they were neglected
discarded
and abandoned
On the darkest of stormy seas they bobble now –
weather-beaten
unrecognizable
decayed and fetid
The things of a lifetime
rotting -
in their cold
watery grave
