A Ballerina’s Last Dance

On the stage a woman danced.

Fluttered across the stage

with discipline, elegance, and passion.

Her feet in glasses full of milk.

Toes painted red.

Her feet rose-

slammed back down onto the stage.

Confident and heavy

with invocation.

The soles of her feet hugging the rims of the glasses.

When the glasses were empty,

she vanished behind the red curtain.
