I have read so many wonderful poems, 
haiku's, 10 words, so many more, and none are alike!
But we tend to forget about spoken word poems, 
Hello Poetry, can you make it possible to share our spoken words as well as our massive pile on's of endless poetry. Spoken Words would add to the sight, and only make it better. 
I wish I could also Use Hellopoetry on my mobile phone, in an app, 
I'm not sure about anyone else, but that would maybe add to HP

I'm a web programmer/pc tech, so I'm going to give my thoughts on this. 

The cool thing about HP is it's sleek, simplistic design, which makes the pages load fast, user friendly, and easy to navigate. So if spoken poetry was implemented, hopefully it wouldn't take away from these things. 

It would be a nice feature if there was an option to upload an recording of your poem upon posting it, and then a button or link would appearing on the actual poems page so it could be listened to. The main issue is storing all the recordings and loading them quickly. High bandwidth storage would probably needed to be invested in.

A cheaper and easier way to do might be to upload the recordings to a 3rd party site (like youtube, soundcloud, etc.) and use their resources and storage to implement it. To maintain page loading speed, the streams should only be loaded on the page after clicking the listen to link or button. They shouldn't be embedded within the page from the get go. 

Those are my thoughts. If anyone would like to add on to this or correct anything, be my guest.

Since most folks can't actually speak the way they write I almost prefer just reading what was said.  It's a more open interpretation than the more emotional and somewhat overwhelming personal interpretation.  I guess as long as we can still remain totally subject to translation and interpretation&#8230;&#8230;..Just kidding&#8230;&#8230;I've heard some inspiring renditions.  But it is more of an act than a spontaneity.  I guess what it all boils down to is Jim Morison's "Like a dog without a bone and actor out a moan, riders on the storm!!!  Esoterically sentient just isn't every bodies cup of tea.

Hey, nevermind me. I've just been very sick and grumpyn Just type where your spoken work is posted and I will check it out. However, those of us who are writers need a place for our writing. There is fb and youtube where spoken work can go. HP is one of the few places where writers can post that is exclusively for writen poetry. I would hate to see that change.

I agree an app would be useful.  As for spoken word, I'm too much of an introvert to put a voice to my words, that in part is one of the reasons I put my words on the written page.  I also feel that part of the challenge of writing poetry is adding a voice through meter and rhyme, which is why I mostly write in traditional forms.  That said, for those who wish to voice their poetry, it would be nice if the option was available.

I really would not care for that. It seems that you simply could just verbalize your poems on your youtube channel. You could even post videos to your facebook. There are several forums for spoken format. But HP has always been a place for reading. I hope it stays that way. (you can include the link to your video in the notes. Maybe that can work for you. But verbal expression robs from the reader his own experience he gets from reading the poem. I writer should understand this)

Eliot is actually very good about responding to concerns and general conversation in the HP community. I'm messaged him about this before and he has said it's something he would like to do, but hasn't been able to yet.  This is also stated on the FAQ page.

HP's main problem has always been their lack of funds. Which is why they added the Light option on poems. They've also acknowledged the mobile app suggestions and they've said they're working on it (if i remember correctly). Having spoken word poetry would be a great addition to HP but I think they are still encountering difficulty with keeping HP up and running( I'm not 100% sure if it's still true) One thing's for sure is if we want further improvements to the site, DONATE.

Great subject for discussion, Cat!  I am able to access HP and post using my android phone, thankfully.  Eliot has a huge, thankless job here, with little funding.  The Light idea is fantastic, but I don't see it being used all that often.  Improvements cost, both time and money.  I like the idea someone suggested below about a Kickstarter campaign too, but if we all committed to Lighting a poem that grabs us more frequently, I'm sure it would help Eliot to implement these great suggestions.  Spoken word links in a post - YES!  There are some spoken word poets on the site posting, it just takes an extra cut and paste step that a lot of people don't want to do, but SO worth it if you haven't checked out these great artists!  And another thing, this place and the people here are AWESOME.

An App will be very helpful with an offline content management system whereas you can just create the poems, store it on the app, upload it anytime that you want. It doesn't necessary have to be a creat-and-post-immediately app. We're not facebook or twitter anyway. We need something that we can manage even offline or a space that we can create the poem, save it if our creative juices runs out, and get back to it once we've got our refill. :) This will be really helpful. I hope the site owner can do something like that.

An app would be great, but spoken word piece her in HP? Hmm, not a great one. It's just like Shakespeare's plays they read them and complain they are boring and makes them sleepy that's because Shakespeare is supposed to be perform not to be read and in this case it is likely the same. Spoken Word is to be perform not to be read ... I know your feeling, since I write spoken word too.

Dear Cat... you should contact Elliott York regarding getting a setup like they have on Poetfreak. At the bottom of the poem area they can input a YouTube link and the video shows up above the poem for the reader to enjoy. Can't hurt to suggest it!

Thanks for the post, Cat!  I have made the same point a while back and had no response.  I guess I could have posted it like you did :)  Next time!  I also began adding links to videos of my poems and suggested in the comments that if anyone wished to see/hear the video recitation they could.  I did this for perhaps a dozen poems but nobody commented at all so I assumed there was no interest in this site in 'Spoken Word' poetry.  I understand that it adds a layer of complexity that perhaps people are reluctant to engage in and I understand this because my use of technology often interferes with my productivity.  Anyways I will put a few links here to some of my poems and perhaps this might encourage others to do the same.  It IS possible to put a link to your 'Spoken Word' recording in your comments presently! Spoken Poetry is great, I attend Open Mic in NYC and enjoy it. Time would limit me to reviewing poetry on YouTube, but would be okay as an option. I belong to several poetry sites and spend a couple of hours a day going through the sites reading, but wouldn't want to spend a lot of time in YouTube  checking out new poetry.

But a prose poem is considered a poem, it doesn't have to be rhymed, or short sentenced, we had a whole workshop on the difference between poetry and prose, it is a debatable divide, all are utterances of words, and can be equally 'poetic' in content, so just post you prose, and see who challenges you. I agree, I thought prose was prose when I first wrote here, and poetry a different thing, on being told later, here on Neopoet, that the short piece of prose was also poetry, I shrugged my shoulders and thought okay if that's what it is...
This reminds me of myself and my sister when looking at something we called turquoise, and she said it was greenish and I said it was bluish- we don't even see the same colours, we humans, that is so, so how can we agree?
Surely the handling of a subject denotes something as poetry, even if written as prose, the content is expressed in a different manner and would seem comic when used as prose, which has to have another kind of expression, perhaps? Just thinking around the edge of the pot, the brew may well be defined by the academic fraternity, but I watch and listen and learn, and hopefully can use whatever turns out to be the label attached to it. Also: My poetry is just like my former letters,&#8232;only put out in shorter rows to make poetry,&#8232;people said my letters were poetry,&#8232;and they are so much a part of each other, poetry and prose,&#8232;they express the same thing and are the rhythm of words&#8232;in the same way, its all amusing that one discriminates&#8232;the one against the other, they are the same,&#8232;each 'poet' using words in his or her own manner,&#8232;don't you think A?
All these academic categories can help structure&#8232;but the spirit of poetry is free.

The definition of a poet, isn't necessarily based on the words they write, one is, or isn't a poet at heart, in one's manner of perceiving the world, if one expresses these words then the world knows that you are poetic, or not !!!! Here we are at the old story of naming things, titles, these have to be present for a job involving just that certain subject, but otherwise, we are free to say what we wish. 

A poet has a freedom that others have not, as they say "Give him/her poet's licence!" and there are many instances of the need for this to be said. We give you licence to write your silent poem, expectant of the sound the vacuum makes each in our own individual minds.

Man's idea of creating collections of letters denoting poetry and prose, in the first place, are only like any other theory of science, metaphysics and religions they are not absolutes. We tend, as human beings, to fix, immortalise our ideas that spring from our nature, our existence, and call on the sacrosanct, when they are not anything more than our current manner of describing what life is.&#160;

For a poem to be a poem it is shorter than prose, and yet, when Shakespeare tackles the rhyme and gives us tomes of it to express one story, it is of the longest type of poetry. The first poems were in this form too, having started in the telling, or singing of stories, mostly about battles, or in the religions in prayers about the current myths; they eventually became written down and took form in words recorded; from this springs the name poem. Like all genre of human expression, the definitions changes with the age one is living in. To argue today, from Aristotle's point of view, would be out of date.

I welcome all forms of poetry, as long as they're properly labelled.  Maybe the spoken poetry people could have a sub-group within Hello Poetry (I myself write poetry that's meant to be read) that would be especially for them and their art-form.
