If love were a poem I could change the rules
I could write the person, the place, the excuse
I could set the expectations and lower the bar
I could ease the pain of the wounded heart
If love were a poem I could open the door
I could even the odds for the lonely and the poor
I could show the way for the wayward lost
I could build a bridge for souls to cross
If love were a poem I could have it myself
I could understand it like everyone else
I could make it through the blackest of days
I could open my eyes and chase the demons away
If love were a poem
Then maybe I’d know.
