don't be like me

maybe you are sad

like me

the kind of sad that

doesn't request tears

but demands to be felt

the kind that is always present

though it's from the past,

hurts in the future

maybe I'm not the only one

who is sad like this

& you sing yourself to sleep too,

with penitent memories

& soft cries

like me.
