The Dream

I had a dream once,

About a boy

Dressed in too small pyjamas.

Sitting on the windowsill

Gazing at the full moon,

Floating in a sea of velvet.

I got out of bed,

Went over to him,

To comfort and to soothe

As he looked so sad.

Yet when I put my hand out

To touch his shoulder

It went right through him.

He turned and looked at me

With a face too sad for one so young,

I was so overwhelmed with pity

That I forgot to be scared,

And whispered to him,

"I am so, so sorry."

When I woke up that morning,

My face that had been dry,

Was wet with tears.
