Chocolate pie is the kind of feeling that makes you happy
It simply is a delight
Pumpkin pie is the kind of feeling that makes you sad
It grimly divides the family at the table during Thanksgiving
But why do you feel so sad?
Are you sad merely because of the soiled grounds
Snack food crumbs, dogs licking it away,
Chairs you bought at IKEA that were simply too complex to build correctly, the neighbors kid that came to help put it together
I am thankful, but unsure
Between the haves and have nots
I am like the half of a piece of pie
You threw me away, like the shirt you bought, cost $5, made in six cents an hour
So simply, if you were to ask, ‘I’ll have the cherry pie’
Are you ready to help pick, wash, cut, grow
The fruit you maybe once assumed of its story, now free of pesticides
I will no longer be ashamed to admit
That pie sounds much more appetizing
Than a banana split, because then I won’t have to share
