If life were a poem, how would you like it to unfold?
One would wish it be factually rhythmic, if truth be told,
The vicissitudes of life make us go through twists and turns,
This glorious uncertainty leaves little room for making U-turns
The harsh reality of periodic highs and lows is almost a given,
You realize that not much could have changed even if you had striven,
That the best laid plans can go awry anytime is a stark realization,
We wish the next time around would be different, with better organization
Is it the glorious uncertainty that makes life so very interesting?
If it were sedentary, would not the sheer boredom be less exciting?
You get used to the rollercoaster ups and downs realizing it is a given,
Attempts to control the narrative would be futile, even if you had striven
The formative years are full of family love, topped by childish innocence,
Your petty follies are forgiven, as you maneuver the surfeit of abundance,
You are coddled to such an extent, that it rarely feels excessive,
And bask in the adulation showered, whilst still being expressive
When in the teens, life is full of adventure waiting to be experienced,
Bravado in activities is an inexplicable feeling that can’t be minced,
The rush of adrenaline while exploring the unknown is unstoppable,
Toeing the “better to be safe than sorry” line, borders on the unthinkable
As one matures, the inevitable feeling of sanguineness seeps in & is ongoing,
The hustle and bustle of the earlier years makes way for less jostling,
Life becomes more sedate with the occasional surprise twists,
You tend to take it in your stride, realizing it is pointless to resist
Middle age, aka midlife, is an inflection point when past behaviors catch up,
A quick introspection followed by mid-course correction calls for a lineup,
The urge to effect lifestyle changes for the better, is a challenge to the status quo,
That this is essential, more often than not, needs to be addressed ultra-slow
The golden years are an ideal time to do some quality soul-searching,
The inevitable “ifs and buts” while reflecting on the past, are up for questioning,
At times, you wish to turn the clock back, hoping there were better outcomes,
Alas, such wishful thinking is for the movies, and rarely serves as upcome
Life is a kaleidoscope, faithfully following the adage “only constant is change”,
Embracing this reality embodies the acceptance that is far from strange,
We constantly evolve over the years, that, in hindsight, is so very logical,
Any views to the contrary, bordering on the outlandish, can be termed farcical
